Writer Profile/Biography: Rabindranath Tagore

Rabindranath Tagore (sobriquet Gurudev, Biswa Kabi) is Bengali Writer, poet, Song Compser who reshaped Bengali literature and music in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Rabindranath Tagore was the fourteenth child of his parents Dwarkanath Tagore and Sharada Devi. He was born on May 7, 1861 in the ancestral mansion, Jorasanko in Central Calcutta. As a child, he had to remain under the supervision of house servants because he could not get close to her mother who was in charge of a large family. He was given formal education under the guidance of able teachers on subjects like Mathematics, Sanskrit, Grammar and other languages. There was even a wrestling instructor. Subsequently, he was sent to school but Rabindranath detested the strict regimentation of school system. Soon he became a drop out.

During the 81 years of his life, Rabindranath spent 68 years in roving the literary world and created some hundreds of verses. He received the Nobel Prize for Gitanjali in 1913. However, he refused the title of ‘Sir’ conferred by the British Government in due protest of Jallianwalla Bagh Tragedy. Rabindranath was an ardent over of natural bounty. He was a great patriot. He established the Viswa Bharati University.
Rabindranath’s spiritual views were not restricted to conventional beliefs of God residing n temples. He found God in every being, in every creation of beauty and aesthetics.
Tagore wrote innumerable dramas, poetry, fiction and memoirs, novel and short stories. His famous poetries are Bhanusingher Padabali, Sonar Tari, Balaka, and Gitimalya. Angels & Demons is a 2000 best selling mystery-thriller novel written by American author Dan Brown and published by Pocket Books. The novel introduces the character Robert Langdon, who is also the protagonist of Brown's subsequent 2003 novel, The Da Vinci Code; his 2009 novel, The Lost Symbol; and the 2013 novel Inferno. Angels and Demons shares many stylistic literary elements with its sequel, such as conspiracies of secret societies, a single-day time frame, and the Catholic Church. Ancient history, architecture, and symbolism are also heavily referenced throughout the book.

Writer Profile: Bankim Chandra Chattopadyay Biography

Bankim Chandra Chattopadyay was born on June 27th 1838. He was born in Kantalpura 24 Pargana District of West Bengal. His father’s name was Yadav Chandra Chattopadyay and his mother’s name was Durga Devi. He was brought up in a very conservative Brahmin Bengali family. He completed his elementary education from Midnapur and did his graduation from Presidency College in the year 1857. Bankim Chandra was married at a very early age of 11. His first wife died in 1959 and he was married again to Rajalakshmi Devi. His first published novel in English was Rajmohan’s wife.

The foremost novel, in the literal sense, of Bengali literature Durgeshnandini was authored by Bankim Chandra.  Bankim Chandra is the stalwart of the social and intellectual movement popularly known as Bengal Renaissance. His literary genius was evidently brilliant in all styles of creative writing be it fiction, satire and essays focusing on social, ethical, and religious issues. His journal Bangadarshan which was started in April 1872 was regarded as the pioneer of an unparalleled cultural progress. It was unique in all its aspects concerning its intellectual dimension, class and variety. The second next extraordinary novel was Kapalkundala. Its central female figure named after the novel represented a classic synthesis of Kalidas’s Shakuntala and Shakespeare’s Miranda. Bankim Chandra composed the celebrated song of Bande Matram in his novel Anandamath which was later declared the national Song of India. Another novel in the series was Mrinalini and together these three novels overlapped the boundaries of history and romance, realism and fantasy.
Although being essentially a novelist, Bankim Chandra excelled in writing numerous essays and religious commentaries. Among his religious dialogues, mention may be made of Krishna Charita, Dharmatattva, Devatattva, and Srimadbhagvat Gita. He wrote several essays including Lok Rahasya, Bijnan Rahasya, and Bichitra Prabandha. Bankim Chandra served for 32 years in Government service and retired in 1891. He breathed his last in April 8, 1894. View or Read more books of Bankim Chandra.

On its first day the book sold one million in hardcover and e-book versions in the U.S., the UK and Canada, making it the fastest selling adult novel in history. The Da Vinci Code is a 2003 mystery-detective novel written by Dan Brown. It follows symbologist Robert Langdon and cryptologist Sophie Neveu after a murder in the Louvre Museum in Paris, when they become involved in a battle between the Priory of Sion and Opus Dei over the possibility of Jesus having been married to Mary Magdalene. The title of the novel refers, among other things, to the finding of the first murder victim in the Grand Gallery of the Louvre, naked and posed like Leonardo da Vinci's famous drawing, the Vitruvian Man, with a cryptic message written beside his body and a pentagram drawn on his chest in his own blood.
